Observes a standoff between Seanchan troops and performers, formulates plans to evacuate Tuon's group while remaining cautious of the dice spinning in his mind. Uses his foxhead medallion to disrupt channeling inside the Aes Sedai wagon by physically restraining Joline until the flow ceases. Deduces Setalle Anan recognizes his artifact, avoids confrontation with Joline's Warders, and retreats to sleep on the floor while remaining deeply wary of the surrounding threats.

Chapter 8 - Dragons' Eggs

Mat / Mat Cauthon

He wakes to the troupe packing camp early due to Seanchan troops, uses his Redarms to hitch wagons, and travels slowly with Luca toward Ebou Dar. He negotiates with Aludra to fund her bronze cannons against the Seanchan through Rand al'Thor, experiences ta'veren memories of dying at the ruins of Londaren Cor, and gives Tuon a razor mare that momentarily silences his dice visions.

Chapter 9 - A Short Path

Mat / Cauthon / Master Cauthon

Observes Egeanin's advice on Seanchan court politics and courting customs before enduring harassment from three Aes Sedai who throw rocks and sparks at him until Teslyn secretly shields a private argument. He later learns Setalle Anan was once an Aes Sedai and makes a secret pact regarding Tuon's true intentions, then witnesses the sisters confront Tuon over peace negotiations. Tuon uses hidden a'dam collars to subdue all three, demonstrates absolute control over their channeling, and orders Mat to remove the leashes after they agree to cease interference. He complies and buries the captured ter'angreal in the rain that night.

Observes the peddler and village sink into clay, feeling dread but recognizing the event as beyond his ability to stop. Listens to Luca's persuasive route proposal and wagers a gold crown with Thom Merrilin that the showman will successfully calm the troupe.
