Inspects a murder scene with Sleete and Chubain, deduces an assassin rather than Black Ajah based on forced locks and lack of channeling signs. Confronts Egwene about the killings and his desire to bond her, learning Mesaana is the killer and that she plans to use herself as bait.

Chapter 22 - The End of a Legend

Gawyn / Gawyn Trakand

Walks the White Tower grounds at night, discusses his future and the Younglings' doubts with Celark, seeks counsel from General Bryne regarding his devotion to Egwene. After Siuan Sanche interrupts them, chases a hooded assassin near Egwene's door, fights the creature's unnatural speed, loses it, and bursts into her unlocked room only to be caught in a trap by Egwene herself.

Chapter 23 - Foxheads

Gawyn / Gawyn Trakand

Reprimanded by Egwene for disobeying orders and scaring away an assassin, argues that she does not want a Warder, gifts loyal soldiers to High Captain Chubain, and leaves Tar Valon on horseback to visit his sister.

Chapter 27 - A Call to Stand

Has left Tar Valon without permission, prompting Egwene to order his immediate return as she anticipates needing him in the coming days.

Chapter 33 - A Good Soup

Gawyn Trakand / Gawyn — aliases: Lord Trakand

Discusses his past and current feelings with Elayne, encounters Seanchan captives who identify an assassin's knife as a Bloodknife, sends a warning to Egwene about the threat, and refuses to return to Tar Valon out of anger at her letter.

Chapter 37 - Darkness in the Tower

Gawyn Trakand / Gawyn

Resolves to step aside and serve as Egwene's Warder, travels to the White Tower, and defeats three Bloodknife assassins by plunging her chambers into darkness before collapsing from severe wounds.

Chapter 38 - Wounds

Gawyn / Gawyn Trakand

Ambushed by assassins in his sleep, suffers a gaping side wound. He partially heals himself, bonds Egwene as his Warder and husband, confesses his love, and dies shortly after.

Chapter 42 - Stronger than Blood

Gawyn / Gawyn Trakand

Sits exhausted in Egwene's quarters, feeling the comfort of their new bond. After discussing Mesaana's capture and a failed assassination attempt, he promises to obey her completely if she allows him to protect her. He suggests marriage immediately, agrees to inform her family and Elayne first, and examines dead bodies outside before taking three black vine-thorn ter'angreal rings from the assassins.

Chapter 56 - Something Wrong

Reports Elayne's arrival and Perrin's military positioning, displays a transformed demeanor as Egwene's devoted partner, and impulsively rushes to confirm Morgase's survival.
