Chapter 11 - An Unexpected Letter

Summary

Elayne al'Vere debates the fate of captive nobles with her advisors Dyelin and Birgitte, ultimately deciding against their release to avoid empowering political rivals. She resolves to seize the Sun Throne in Cairhien to unify Andor and secure her legacy independent of Rand al'Thor's potential death. Master Norry arrives with intelligence that Duhara Basaheen is secretly courting the captive nobles to build a faction against Elayne, which Elayne interprets as a veiled threat. Norry then delivers an informal letter from Matrim Cauthon, revealing he and Thom Merrilin survived their escape from Ebou Dar and are requesting bellfounders. Overjoyed by Mat's survival, Elayne plans to meet him, utilize the Cairhienin members of his Band for her upcoming campaign, and arrange a meeting with Kin members Sumeko and Alise to secure Traveling capabilities for ruling two nations.
