Chapter 1 - To Keep the Bargain

Aviendha walks with Nynaeve and Elayne through the Tarasin Palace in Ebou Dar, concerned for Olver and irritated by their casual chatter. They encounter Teslyn Baradon, who warns them of Moghedien and a gholam in the city before leaving. The group meets with the Kin and the Windfinders in the palace stableyard; tension flares between the factions, particularly over the Bowl of the Winds and the captive Ispan Shefar. Aviendha weaves a gateway to a clearing north of the city. As the group prepares to depart, Aviendha spots a mysterious figure on a palace tower and senses danger, warning Elayne to be wary before she and the others step through the gateway.
