Moiraine ends the questioning of the prisoners by ordering their transfer to Tar Valon and warns that she has alerted the Amyrlin to the Mazrim Taim threat. She reveals a twisted redstone ter'angreal in the Great Holding capable of granting three truthful answers, explaining its history with Mayene and the rules governing its use. After discussing Rand's stubbornness and the prophecy involving Illian, she departs the room.

Moiraine steps out of the ter'angreal, furious that both ta'veren have used it and risking the Pattern. She explains that the beings feed on sensations and that their answers are true only regarding one's own future, offering her services to help interpret them. She cryptically answers Mat's question about why she cannot use the doorway twice before departing.
