PROLOGUE

Nynaeve

Travels to Aesdaishar to spread word of Lan's actions, convincing others to join him while adopting Aes Sedai mannerisms that irritate him. Her recent travels directly influence the gathering forces around Lan.

Chapter 3 - The Amyrlin's Anger

Nynaeve / Nynaeve al'Thor

Receives a telepathic summons from Egwene demanding a meeting in the Hall of the Tower in two nights under threat of forced measures if she continues to avoid her.

Chapter 10 - After the Taint

Nynaeve / al'Thor

Appears alongside Rand in Perrin's fleeting vision, riding beside him through a muddy city street.

Chapter 12 - An Empty Ink Bottle

Nynaeve al'Meara / Nynaeve — aliases: Aes Sedai

Paces Min's quarters in a pique over Rand's three-day absence, demanding answers and expressing fear of his current dangerous state. Investigates Alanna's vanished chambers with Cadsuane, questions the origin of a sealed note, and is subtly manipulated by Cadsuane's tea before realizing Min senses Rand has arrived nearby.

Chapter 13 - For What Has Been Wrought

Nynaeve / Nynaeve al'Meara

Leads a group of Aes Sedai to meet Rand, questions his plans regarding Tarwin's Gap, and is ordered to accompany him to Arad Doman.

Chapter 14 - A Vow

Nynaeve / Nynaeve al'Meara

Meets Egwene in Tel'aran'rhiod, offers blunt advice on establishing authority, and reluctantly accepts Egwene as "Mother" after being outmaneuvered. Reveals Rand's demeanor has softened, acknowledges Elayne's pregnancy, and agrees to return to the Tower for formal testing.

Chapter 15 - Use a Pebble

Nynaeve — aliases: Lady Aes Sedai

Investigates a destructive anomaly in Tear that reduces buildings and people to dust, discovering the victims are husks rather than corpses. After clearing the rubble, successfully extracts thorn-like projections from Naeff's mind, curing his madness for the first time. Later Delves Rand al'Thor's mind, perceiving vast darkness coated in a brilliant white radiance, and realizes she cannot yet heal him but vows to treat other Asha'man.

Chapter 20 - A Choice

Nynaeve / Nynaeve al'Meara — aliases: Aes Sedai, child

Undergoes a brutal ter'angreal raising test that forces her to choose between rigid Tower protocol and saving lives, ultimately breaking rules to channel prematurely and use balefire. She argues that institutional devotion should not override compassion, secures Lan's bond from Myrelle immediately after passing, and realizes her identity remains tied to him rather than the White Tower.

Chapter 29 - A Terrible Feeling

Tam / al'Thor — aliases: Tarn

Arrives at camp smelling worried, abruptly informs Perrin he must leave immediately for a secret matter involving Rand and Aes Sedai, and departs after expressing pride in his son.

Chapter 32 - A Storm of Light

Rand / al'Thor — aliases: Dragon Reborn, Car'a'carn, Lord Dragon

Steps alone against thousands of Trollocs and unleashes a massive storm of fire, ice, and wind to destroy them, then returns exhausted to the Stone of Tear to discuss strategy and Callandor with Min before discovering Mattin Stepaneos is alive.

Chapter 33 - A Good Soup

Nynaeve al'Meara / Nynaeve

Reflects on her new status as an Aes Sedai, questions Rand's approval of Asha'man bonding women, and voices concern over Egwene's safety in the upcoming Mesaana trap.

Chapter 36 - An Invitation

Nynaeve / Nynaeve al'Meara

Appears briefly at the start of the meeting to receive orders from Egwene, confirming her readiness to lead the attack if Mesaana arrives and agreeing to remain hidden near the Hall of the Tower to monitor for spies.

Chapter 37 - Darkness in the Tower

Nynaeve al'Meara / Nynaeve

Reports seeing Alviarin and Notori in the Tower, confirms Siuan and Leane are safe, and agrees to hunt Black Ajah alongside Egwene.

Chapter 38 - Wounds

Nynaeve / Nynaeve al'Meara

Searches through rubble in Tel'aran'rhiod alongside the other Dreamers after Mesaana's forces flee.

Chapter 42 - Stronger than Blood

Nynaeve / Nynaeve al'Meara

Lan identifies her passion and kindness through their newly formed bond, realizing she has taken it. He also learns she previously instructed Kaisel to wait for him at the Silverwalls, successfully outmaneuvering his attempt to ride alone.

Chapter 48 - Near Avendesora

Rand / al'Thor

Referenced regarding past discoveries at Rhuidean to cleanse saidin, removal of numerous ter'angreal for the White Tower, and relief that he has not yet disclosed the Aiel's shameful ancestral history to their people.

Chapter 51 - A Testing

Rand / Rand al'Thor / Lews Therin — aliases: Dragon Reborn, Lord Dragon, Lord al'Thor

Endures physical strikes from four Borderlander monarchs to prove his identity against an ancient prophecy. Reveals he is nearly four and a half centuries old, asserts his unified identity, and issues an ultimatum demanding their oaths of loyalty or leaving them behind as he marches to Shayol Ghul.

Chapter 52 - Boots

Rand / al'Thor

Feels troubled yet peaceful through Elayne's bond, is referenced in spy reports regarding whereabouts and rumors of Tylin's death, and formally ceded Cairhien to Elayne.
