Chapter 23 - Beyond the Stone

Couladin, the flame-haired Shaido leader, argues with the Wise Ones about who may enter Rhuidean. He attempts to stab Mat with a spear but is flung back by Amys and Melaine's channeling, then storms off to his camp in anger.

Chapter 34 - He Who Comes with the Dawn

Chapter 36 - Misdirections

Couladin rides out from the Shaido column alone and argues with Rhuarc over who should escort the peddler, insisting on his own status. He later declares that the Shaido will follow 'He Who Comes With the Dawn' without explicitly naming Rand, before marching off with his own people.

Chapter 37 - Imre Stand

Couladin attempts to trade with Kadere but leaves empty-handed. He and his Shaido force are later attacked by a smaller group of Trollocs during the night raid, suggesting they were targeted to prevent them from aiding the Taardad.

Chapter 49 - Cold Rocks Hold

Couladin — aliases: flame-haired man

Couladin runs alongside the group and swaggeringly asks Roofmistress Lian for leave to enter as if he were a clan chief. He is publicly insulted by being welcomed only as a beggar, turning red with rage and glaring at Rand before storming off into the crowd.

Chapter 57 - A Breaking in the Three-fold Land

Couladin strides onto the ledge, reveals fake Dragon markings on his arms, and proclaims himself the Car'a'carn. He is exposed as a liar when Rand reveals his own markings and history, and he is rejected by the chiefs.
