Chapter 2 - Whirlpools in the Pattern

Rand dreams of his complex relationships with Min, Elayne, and Egwene before waking to find Berelain in his chambers. Chapter 7 - Playing with Fire

Chapter 8 - Hard Heads

When Moiraine expresses concern about two ta'veren using the ter'angreal simultaneously, Rand calmly explains that books led him there. Moiraine, annoyed, leaves to investigate further. Rand then informs Mat that Perrin will do what is necessary to save Emond's Field, leaving Mat to ponder his own destiny.
Chapter 21 - Into the Heart

Rand enters the Heart of the Stone flanked by Aiel warriors, wielding Callandor to intimidate the nobles. He announces the army's march into Cairhien, forces Meilan to lead, and uses the rivalry between Alteima and Estanda to destabilize his enemies. He drives Callandor into the floor to trap it, declaring it will stay until he returns from Rhuidean, and then departs.
Chapter 22 - Out of the Stone

Rand rides at the head of the procession, concealing his identity while discussing the Aiel's looting with Egwene. He reveals his plan to use a Portal Stone to reach Rhuidean, searches the stone column for the correct symbol with Mat's help, and channels saidin through an angreal to transport the entire group.
Chapter 23 - Beyond the Stone

Rand collapses from exhaustion after channeling the Portal Stone but recovers quickly. He formally asks the Wise Ones for leave to enter Rhuidean, claiming Aiel heritage through his mother, and is granted permission. He places his belt knife and a small angreal at the Wise Ones' feet before descending into the fog with Mat.
Chapter 24 - Rhuidean

Rand enters Rhuidean and drinks from a fountain he activates with the One Power. He sits beneath the Tree of Life with Mat, reflecting on his duty before entering the glittering ter'angreal rings alone to pursue the answers he seeks, leaving Mat outside.
Chapter 25 - The Road to the Spear

Rand walks among the dazzling glass columns of the ter'angreal, feeling the pull of the artifact as he moves back in time. He experiences vivid visions of the past, inhabiting the minds of Mandein, Rhodric, Jeordam, and Lewin, feeling their fears, actions, and the resulting trauma of the Aiel's history. He approaches Muradin, who is trembling and snarling in his own vision.
Chapter 26 - The Dedicated

Rand walks through the glass columns of the ter'angreal, enduring overwhelming visions of the past that leave him physically shaken and disoriented. Later, in Rhuidean, he finds Mat hanging from a tree, revives him with chest compressions and breathing, and together they fight off dark, dust-formed entities that attack them in the square before they flee the city as dawn breaks.

Chapter 34 - He Who Comes with the Dawn

He learns of his parents' history from the Wise Ones and commands them to dream-call the clan chiefs to Alcair Dal.

Chapter 37 - Imre Stand

Rand arrives at Imre Stand and discovers the blood-splashed, ransacked buildings, with Mat suggesting Trollocs may be responsible. He practices sword forms with Lan, draws tactical advice from Rhuarc, and engages in a tense interaction with the peddler Kadere and his companion Isendre. During the night, Rand fights in the surprise Trolloc attack and later questions Moiraine about the nature of the assault, while Egwene warns him to stop whatever is upsetting her.

He eventually rests as Rhuarc announces their arrival at Cold Rocks Hold.

Rand rides with Aviendha to Cold Rocks Hold, where he observes the city's unique terrace farming. He bows humbly to Roofmistress Lian, earning her respect and entry into the hold, and presents her with a golden lion gift. He refuses Rhuarc's suggestion to dress as an Aiel to gain support, insisting he must be taken as he is, and storms out of a meal when Moiraine questions his war plans.

Chapter 58 - The Traps of Rhuidean

Rand chases Asmodean through a magical maze and into Rhuidean, causing catastrophic destruction to the city. He battles Asmodean for a sa'angreal, uses a small angreal to cut Asmodean's link to the Dark One, and defeats him. He returns to Alcair Dal with Asmodean bound to him, informs the gathered Aiel chiefs that the road ahead will be bloody, and prepares to lead them.
