Bayle argues with Egeanin about the rescue operation and listens to her explanations before boldly proposing marriage. He reacts with indignation when Egeanin attempts to grant him manumission by paying for passage, burning the paper and insisting she buy him a ship. He reveals knowledge of Mat Cauthon and Thom Merrilin, suggesting them as valuable companions for an escape, and pledges his loyalty to Egeanin against any threat.

Chapter 29 - Another Plan

Bayle Domon recognizes Mat and forces him into Egeanin's presence, introducing Mat to her and urging her to reveal her situation to him to protect him from danger.

Chapter 30 - Cold, Fat Raindrops

Bayle Domon follows Egeanin to the palace gate, shaking rain from his cloak as he accompanies her to meet Mat.

Chapter 31 - What the Aelfinn Said

Domon is present in the anteroom, makes a choking sound when Mat claims Tuon is his wife, and shakes his head.
