When Rand reacts with fury and the One Power, she recovers her composure and accepts his terms of exile from the Inner City in exchange for her life.

Alanna uses illusion to intimidate the Two Rivers girls into their rooms after their panic over Rand. She later argues with Verin about the necessity of bonding men who can channel and debates the status of the Tower and Rand, eventually agreeing to Verin's plan to observe him closely.

Alanna waits at the Crown of Roses, appearing rumpled and agitated. She defends her unauthorized bonding of Rand, arguing he is not terrified, but later becomes defensive when Merana reprimands her. She eventually calms down after confirming that the diplomatic efforts are not ruined.
