Bethamin inspects the damane kennels with Renna, marking Zushi for transfer and Tessi for harsher treatment, while internally fearing she is a marath’damane like Renna and Seta. Later, she is confronted in her inn room by a Seeker who compels her to spy on Egeanin Tamarath to uncover a traitor in Suroth's camp.

Chapter 21 - A Matter of Property

Bethamin enters Egeanin's room in a panic, reporting that a Seeker has ordered her to spy on Egeanin under threat of execution. She desperately babbles about a conspiracy involving Suroth, Tuon, and other sul'dam, fearing for her life. Egeanin slaps her into silence and forces her to agree to maintain contact with the Seeker while doing nothing else, leaving Bethamin relieved but terrified.
