Gawyn Trakand commands Younglings at a Whitecloak encampment, receives news of Morgase's alleged death from a peddler, and learns that the White Tower plans to escort Rand to Tar Valon.

Appearing in his dream as a captor turned rescuer, Gawyn fights a dream-Rand in a white-columned hall. He frees Egwene from chains, carries her through corridors and to a flowered hillside, and hesitantly confesses his romantic feelings, fearing his brother Galad's disapproval.

In Egwene's dream, Gawyn fights a dream-Rand, frees Egwene from chains, and confesses his love for her.

Chapter 44 - The Color of Trust

The golden-braided Hunter accompanies Aviendha, showing more confidence with his mouse-colored gelding and seemingly trying to convince Aviendha about her mount.

Chapter 53 - The Feast of Lights

Gawyn — aliases: young man

Galina seeks out Gawyn in the camp, finding him sitting his horse and talking to the Younglings. She notes his withdrawn and quiet state since Rand was captured and worries he might try to avenge his mother.

Chapter 55 - Dumai’s Wells

Rides at the head of the Aes Sedai column, tormented by his promise to Egwene and his desire to rescue Min, until he receives a dying warning of the Aiel and orders the column to halt and the Younglings to rally.
