Elayne struggles with wearing Taraboner veils and dresses while searching for the Black Ajah. She is attacked by ruffians but is saved by Egeanin. Later, in the inn, she questions Egeanin and receives news from Thom Merrilin. A mysterious channeling woman compels her to answer questions and then wipes her memory of the event, leaving her with only a vague impression of a 'nice woman.'

Chapter 51 - Revelations in Tanchico

Elayne eats Domani food with Nynaeve and Egeanin, freezes Bayle Domon and Egeanin in mid-fight using the One Power, and binds Egeanin's hands with Air after Nynaeve's instructions. She listens to the group's report about the Black Ajah and plans to sneak into the Panarch's Palace while keeping watch on Egeanin.

Chapter 52 - Need

Elayne wakes Nynaeve from the dream and listens to her detailed report of the events in Tel'aran'rhiod, including the appearance of Moghedien and the discovery of the ter'angreal. She helps Egeanin dress and discusses plans to infiltrate the Panarch's Palace with Nynaeve.

Chapter 54 - Into the Palace

Elayne rides in a cart disguised as a farm woman, then changes into a servant's dress to enter the palace. She enters the Panarch's apartments, finds Panarch Amathera being abused by Temaile, and uses the One Power to shield Temaile and rescue Amathera, forcing the Panarch to cooperate with her escape plan.

Chapter 55 - Into the Deep

Elayne emerges from the palace with her companions, explaining her decision to let the Panarch hide in the countryside for a few days to teach her humility, and attempts to extinguish the darkness of the artifacts with the One Power before they are secured.
