Junie / Junie Black

Junie Black carries the carton of Italian food into the house and prepares café espresso. She engages in playful banter with the men, recalls old radio programs, defends the existence of flying saucers against Bill's skepticism, and wins the poker hand while remarking on Vic's facial expressions and the likelihood of his overeating.

Chapter 3

Junie / Junie Black

Junie Black, wearing Slim-Jims and a swimsuit, spends her afternoon with Ragle at the pool, discussing his nomadic lifestyle and past marriage. She rejects his advances with hesitation, allowing him to force a kiss on her before becoming cold and distant, warning him that her brother-in-law Margo might discover their affair.

Chapter 5

Junie

Junie spends the day away from home, lying to Bill Black about her activities and feigning ignorance about seeing Ragle. She attempts to manipulate Black into recruiting Ragle for Civil Defense as a means to facilitate an affair, later becoming distressed and tearful when her deception unravels and Black remains focused on the conspiracy.

Chapter 9

Junie

Junie Black receives a telegram intended for her husband and accuses him of hiring someone to harm Ragle. She attempts to leave to confront Vic and Margo, but Bill stops her, leading to a heated argument about Ragle's fate.

Chapter 10

Junie / Junie Black

Junie visits Ragle in his room, declaring she has removed her wedding ring and intends to divorce Bill Black to be with him. She reveals she memorized a telegram about Ragle and mentions an appointment with an attorney before rushing out to get downtown.
