Perrin runs through the snow, pursued by the need to find Faile, until a great gray wolf, Hopper, appears to stop him. Hopper insists that Perrin must return to the waking world to find her, as he is too strongly connected to the wolf realm to survive there longer. After Hopper lunges and knocks Perrin down, Perrin wakes up inside a tent, realizing the previous events were not a nightmare but a separate reality, and finds himself in Berelain's presence.
