She learns of the ambush on Naean and Elenia from Birgitte, plans a political response, and returns to the Palace to confront the issues of spies and security, ending with a request for Mistress Harfor.
Chapter 8 - Sea Folk and Kin

Elayne manages palace security by questioning Mistress Harfor about spies and reviewing administrative burdens. She meets with Reanne Corly and Alise Tenjile to discuss the Seanchan damane, weighing the risks of freeing Alivia and others. After Nynaeve orders the removal of the collars, Elayne reflects on the difficulty of her political situation and the unexpected tenderness between Nynaeve and Lan.

Elayne dresses for the day, meets with Halwin Norry to discuss economic gains from alum deposits and political news regarding Rand and Elaida, and dismisses the idea of using Cairhienin soldiers. After eating a light lunch, she is interrupted by Dyelin and realizes she has been poisoned by forkroot in her tea. She tries to warn Dyelin but loses consciousness as an arrow strikes one of the attackers.
Chapter 10 - A Plan Succeeds

Elayne wakes from the forkroot poisoning, channeled to light the room, and discusses the assassination attempt and bodyguard plans with her companions before entering Tel'aran'rhiod to meet Egwene.
Chapter 12 - A Lily in Winter
Elayne — aliases: Aes Sedai, Daughter-Heir
Elayne leads Aviendha and Min to Rand, insists they bond him as their shared Warder, and performs the complex Spirit weave to link all three women to him. She then asks Rand to help her undress, implying intimacy. She wakes to a preserved golden lily left by Rand and learns of the disappearance of Nynaeve, Lan, and Alivia.
