Talmanes complains to Mat about his gambling losses and later rides at the head of the column with the banner, remaining alert and straight-backed during the march despite the early hour.

Talmanes questions Mat about the Aes Sedai's role with Logain and later gets drunk with brandy during the night, inadvertently leading the Aiel to Mat's tent. He is wounded in the ambush, requiring a tourniquet from Daerid and sewing from Nerim for Mat.

Chapter 33 - Courage to Strengthen

Talmanes is present in Mat's tent and is summoned by Mat to receive orders for the upcoming mission to Salidar alongside Nalesean and Daerid.

Chapter 38 - A Sudden Chill

Talmanes rides up to receive orders from Mat and is left in command of the Band's defensive preparations while Mat goes to negotiate with the Amyrlin.

Chapter 40 - Unexpected Laughter

Talmanes is not physically present but receives a message via Vanin instructing him to sit tight and not attempt a rescue, as Mat may stay in Salidar for a few days.

Chapter 44 - The Color of Trust

Talmanes takes charge of the Band’s camp, instructs his men to remain in Salidar or follow the women only if they move, and stays behind to guard the Band after Mat departs.
