He panics briefly, then packs his books and saddlebags, preparing to leave for Cairhien despite his worries about settling down to treesinging.

Chapter 50 - Thorns

Loial finds a paradise in the Royal Library, spending his days among books and a slender Aes Sedai, providing Perrin with companionship initially.

Chapter 51 - The Taking

He sits with Perrin and Faile playing a game of stones, keeping his eyes fixed on the board and twitching his ears at Perrin's voice, seemingly oblivious to the tension.

Chapter 53 - The Feast of Lights

Loial sits with Perrin and Faile, sensing their tension and looking as though he wants to cry. When Rand's sword is revealed, he is shocked, then grimly vows to join the rescue effort, refusing to let Perrin go alone and claiming he must be present for his books to have a proper ending.

Chapter 54 - The Sending

Loial joins the pursuit, carrying a large axe and walking steadily alongside the column. He discusses Aes Sedai lore and potential strategies with Perrin at night and obsessively talks about his betrothed Erith.
