Wakes in freezing darkness under a supply cart, counting twenty-two days since Faile's kidnapping and reflecting on his forged anger and a wolf dream warning of an unknown dread. He receives reports from Balwer and Selande regarding Masema's movements and Masuri Sedai's secret visits, then agrees to hear Balwer's strategic suggestions directly while warning against manipulation before mounting Stepper to continue the hunt.

Chapter 6 - The Scent of a Dream

Rides into the forest to clear his head but remains fixated on locating Faile and the Shaido. He identifies Darkhound tracks circling his camp through an Asha'man gateway, deduces they were not hunting him, and later accepts food from Berelain while learning of Masema's secret alliance with the Seanchan.

Chapter 7 - Blacksmith’s Puzzle

Observes the vanished Darkhound tracks and smells their burnt-sulphur scent, deciphers bird calls to detect Masema's approaching army, and prepares his men for a potential confrontation while restraining his anger toward the Prophet.

Rejects ransom proposals and orders Aram to fetch Grady for a gateway, then experiences an overwhelming vision of swirling colors revealing Rand and Nynaeve before demanding prisoners from Sulin to scout the Shaido camp.

Chapter 25 - When to Wear Jewels

Paces his tent in fine clothes, counts thirty-two knots on a rawhide cord tied to Faile, and prepares to ride to So Habor while worrying about Arganda's recklessness and the dwindling camp supplies.

Chapter 26 - In So Habor

Perrin / Perrin t'Bashere Aybara — aliases: Lord of the Two Rivers

Leads the group to So Habor, inspects the grain and discovers it is completely infested with weevils that should not survive the freezing winter, ultimately deciding the town must face its supernatural affliction alone.

Chapter 27 - What Must Be Done

Perrin / Perrin Aybara

Oversees the winnowing of grain outside So Habor while maintaining a stoic presence to calm his uneasy drivers. Intervenes in Masema's torture of a Shaido prisoner, severs the man's wrist with his axe, and threatens the remaining captives with losing their hands and feet if they do not reveal Faile's location. After walking into the woods to process his actions, learns from Tallanvor that fifteen thousand Seanchan are hunting the Shaido nearby.
