Wakes in freezing darkness under a supply cart, counting twenty-two days since Faile's kidnapping and reflecting on his forged anger and a wolf dream warning of an unknown dread. He receives reports from Balwer and Selande regarding Masema's movements and Masuri Sedai's secret visits, then agrees to hear Balwer's strategic suggestions directly while warning against manipulation before mounting Stepper to continue the hunt.
Chapter 6 - The Scent of a Dream

Rides into the forest to clear his head but remains fixated on locating Faile and the Shaido. He identifies Darkhound tracks circling his camp through an Asha'man gateway, deduces they were not hunting him, and later accepts food from Berelain while learning of Masema's secret alliance with the Seanchan.
Chapter 7 - Blacksmith’s Puzzle

Observes the vanished Darkhound tracks and smells their burnt-sulphur scent, deciphers bird calls to detect Masema's approaching army, and prepares his men for a potential confrontation while restraining his anger toward the Prophet.
