Chapter 2 - Rhuidean

Rand / Rand al'Thor — aliases: He Who Comes With the Dawn, Car'a'carn, Lord Dragon

Rand observes the Aiel collecting angreal in the plaza and holds a council with six clan chiefs regarding the remaining clans and the Shaido. He later confronts Moiraine and Egwene, rejecting her guidance and displaying a damaged cuendillar seal that breaks his assumptions about the Dragon's prison. He asserts his own plans to unite the nations through force and fear, receives a message from Elayne from Egwene, and then angrily confronts Jasin Natael.

Chapter 3 - Pale Shadows

Rand / Rand al'Thor

Rand traps the newly identified Asmodean in a room sealed by a weave of Spirit and Fire, forcing him to serve as a teacher since no other man could teach him without madness or deception. Later, he walks through Rhuidean with the Maidens of the Spear and allows Mat Cauthon to depart with Kadere's wagons after warning him not to trust the merchant.

Chapter 4 - Twilight

Rand climbs the Roof of the Maidens to escape the society's mothering attention and rests in his windowless chamber, where he reflects on his inability to trust Aes Sedai and his need to protect the secret of Darkfriends among Kadere's wagons. He is visited by Aviendha, who delivers blankets and reprimands him for intervening in the punishment of Isendre, asserting Elayne's claim on him. After Isendre leaves, Rand extinguishes his lamps, sets dream wards, and sleeps, haunted by thoughts of his eventual fate and dreams of three women.

Chapter 7 - A Departure

Rand — aliases: Car'a'carn

Rand wears a blue silk coat and a dragon-buckled belt while speaking with clan chiefs and traders in Rhuidean. He uses his ability to channel to reactivate the city's fountains and announces the immediate departure of the army toward the Jangai Pass.

Chapter 15 - What Can Be Learned in Dreams

Rand — aliases: Car'a'carn

Rand is observed by Egwene lying awake in his tent with Jasin Natael, reading a book of Prophecies and laughing bitterly at a passage before tossing it to Natael.
