Chapter 2 - The Butcher's Yard

Rand / Lord Dragon / Dragon Reborn / Car'a'carn / Rand al'Thor

Rand recites the names of the dead Maidens before emerging from the charnel ground with Min. He firmly denies Kiruna's offer of Healing, forces the captive Aes Sedai to swear fealty, assigns the prisoners to the Wise Ones, and selects Dashiva as the sole Asha'man escort despite Taim's protests.

Chapter 3 - Hill of the Golden Dawn

Rand arrives at the Cairhien hilltop, observing the terrain and the loyalty of his followers with weary suspicion. He listens to Feraighin's report of political unrest and the Shaido's wavering faith, then reacts with cold hostility upon learning of the presence of other sisters in the city. Dismissing their advice, he orders Sorilea to demonstrate the prisoners' submission to dispel rumors, then departs for the city with Min.

Chapter 4 - Into Cairhien

Rand rides quietly toward Cairhien, accepting Min and Loial’s insistence on entering the city with him and refusing Dashiva’s suggestion to use a gateway to bypass the crowds. He leads his small party through the city gates and into the Sun Palace, where he confronts Camaille and Selande with a hardened demeanor, demanding to see Colavaere and seeking justice.

Chapter 5 - A Broken Crown

Rand strides through the Grand Hall to confront Colavaere, breaking her Sun Crown to display his power and declaring his support for Elayne. He listens to the accusations against Colavaere, strips her of all titles, and exiles her to farm life, then effortlessly heals her unconscious body before ordering a halt to the gathering and preparing to depart for Mayene with Annoura.

Chapter 6 - Old Fear, and New Fear

Rand leads a group out of the Grand Hall to find Berelain, then returns to interrupt Perrin and Faile. He reveals Berelain's location and urgently demands to know if Perrin will command the army against Illian; upon Perrin's refusal, Rand leaves abruptly.

Chapter 7 - Pitfalls and Tripwires

Rand battles the taint of saidin and the intrusive voice of Lews Therin before allowing Sulin to bind and hood him as a ruse to enter Caemlyn disguised. He is escorted to a secret meeting with Bashere and Bael's family, where Bashere discusses Dyelin Taravin's rise to power in Andor, including the timeline of arrests and executions, the presence of Aes Sedai, and the threat of Sammael, ultimately ordering Fedwin to carry messages and confirming his intent to send the Aiel into Illian.

Chapter 18 - As the Plow Breaks the Earth

Rand sits in the Sun Palace, hosting Aiel clan chiefs and maintaining a ward against Merana to hide his communication with her. He confronts Berelain regarding assassination threats and orders her return to Mayene, then endures a tense provocation by Cadsuane Melaidhrin who warns him of his approaching madness. After Cadsuane leaves, Rand struggles with his fear of insanity until Idrien Tarsin arrives and collapses against him.

Chapter 19 - Diamonds and Stars

Rand sits alone in a destroyed room, staring at the ceiling in grief and exhaustion over the deaths of Herid Pel and Colavaere. He accepts Min's comfort and kisses her desperately, acknowledging his own emotional pain and the weight of his actions.

Chapter 33 - A Bath

Rand / Rand al'Thor — aliases: Dragon Reborn, sheepherder, car'a'carn

Rand isolates himself in his bedchamber, struggling with guilt over the death of Maidens and his treatment of prisoners. Min Farshaw forces entry to comfort him, revealing a vision where he merges with another man, one of whom dies. Relieved he is not insane, Rand accepts her presence, allows the Maidens to bathe him, and agrees to visit the Sea Folk.

Chapter 34 - Ta'veren

Rand / Coramoor / Dragon Reborn / Rand al'Thor — aliases: Lord Dragon

Rand leads a grand procession from the Sun Palace to the harbor, displaying his authority over the Aes Sedai and Aiel. He boards a longboat and confronts the Sea Folk leadership, using his ta'veren influence to compel Wavemistress Harine to agree to serve him and gather intelligence on the Seanchan, before storming out of the cabin in frustration.

Chapter 35 - Into the Woods

Rand / Rand al'Thor / Tomas Trakand — aliases: the Dragon Reborn, the Dragon

Rand searches the Sun Palace wardrobe for a disguise, selecting a plain green wool coat, before traveling with Min to the woods. He adopts the alias 'Tomas Trakand' to infiltrate the rebel camp, where he confronts Padan Fain with icy hatred and accepts Toram Riatin's challenge to a sword fight.

Chapter 41 - A Crown of Swords

Rand al'Thor — aliases: the Dragon Reborn, King of Illian, King of the World, the Car'a'carn

Rand wakes from a two-day coma, ignoring Cadsuane's orders to rest, and joins the Asha'man to confront Sammael in Illian. He leads the charge into the city and pursues Sammael into Shadar Logoth, where he kills Liah with balefire while simultaneously destroying Sammael. He is subsequently crowned King of Illian by the Council of Nine, accepting the Laurel Crown which becomes known as the Crown of Swords.
