Chapter 16 - A Touch on the Cheek

Queen Tylin Quintara summons Mat to her presence, inspects his warning about Jaichim Carridin with dismissive grace, and then physically inspects his face with unsettling familiarity. She reveals her son Beslan to Mat and commands that he must accompany Beslan to all the upcoming festivals, effectively trapping Mat in a social commitment.

Chapter 28 - Bread and Cheese

Tylin — aliases: the Queen

Queen Tylin intercepts Mat in his new rooms, physically trapping him and kissing him relentlessly until interrupted by Thom and Juilin. She later sends notes under his door, secures his chambers to prevent her own pursuit, and starves him by ordering the palace cooks to ignore him so he will not spoil his appetite for her.

Chapter 29 - The Festival of Birds

Tylin appears in Mat's room, locking the door and seducing him. Afterward, she leaves him a feathered mask and a note insulting him affectionately. She is later revealed by Beslan to have chosen Mat as her lover.

Chapter 37 - A Note from the Palace

Though not present in person, Tylin is the subject of Mat's anxiety and delivers a note via Laren. The note reveals she is having Mat's things moved to her apartments, has assigned Riselle to watch Olver in Mat's old rooms, and plans to have seamstresses measure Mat for shorter coats, expressing delight at his 'bottom' and inquiring about a 'Daughter of the Nine Moons.'

Chapter 39 - Promises to Keep

Queen Tylin observes Mat's negotiations and listens to his warnings about the gholam. She allows the group to depart and engages in flirtatious banter with him before he leaves, admiring his 'masterful' nature. Mat later receives a ring as a parting gift from Tylin from Thom, who found it on his pillow.
