Sammael appears unexpectedly to Carridin and Shiaine, threatening Carridin with death and revealing the fate of his sister. He gives Carridin more time to find the Bowl of the Winds, notes that Mat Cauthon can wait, and departs through a gateway.

Sammael travels with Graendal, revealing his deception to the Wise Ones by sending them to loot rather than capturing Rand. He asserts his dominance over Graendal by reminding her that he will be the Nae'blis, displaying arrogance and a willingness to use the True Power, before leaving her through a gateway.

Sammael watches the Shaido be scattered by the Traveling Boxes, laughing at the chaos he has created. He tells Graendal that he rises or falls with the Dark One and opens a gateway to his private rooms in Illian to leave her.

Chapter 41 - A Crown of Swords

Sammael — aliases: the Forsaken

Sammael appears in Illian, taunting Rand and luring him to Shadar Logoth. He waits near the Waygate as Mashadar descends, but is destroyed when Rand unleashes balefire to kill Liah, an explosion that kills both Sammael and Liah.
