Bayle argues with Egeanin about the rescue operation and listens to her explanations before boldly proposing marriage. He reveals knowledge of Mat Cauthon and Thom Merrilin, suggesting them as valuable companions for an escape, and pledges his loyalty to Egeanin against any threat.
