Aviendha rides with the Maidens of the Spear and later leads the search party that finds the buried Portal Stone. She confronts Rand about his treatment of Elayne, stating she will try to like him for Egwene's sake. She stands stiffly as Rhuarc reveals his knowledge of Rhuidean and watches the activation with an imperturbable demeanor.

Aviendha climbs the mountain, bare-bodied and sunburned. She freezes when she sees Rand, her eyes filled with fury, before being led away by the Wise Ones. She later appears in a skirt and blouse, looking furious when Rand watches her.

Aviendha walks beside Rand’s horse, criticizing Isendre and insisting on teaching Rand about Aiel customs to test him. She reacts with fury when Rand misunderstands the role of a roofmistress, eventually revealing that the Wise Ones are secretly teaching her to channel by creating a fireball. She accompanies the group to Cold Rocks Hold, still glaring at Rand.
