Chapter 13 - Floating Like Snow

Rides Tai’daishar down the ridge to confront a gathered force of men, ignoring the protests of the nobles who wish to send others. He offers the men a choice to lay down arms or follow him by midday, then returns to the ridge and withdraws to his tent, battling internal rage and the physical toll of channeling.

Chapter 14 - Message from the M’Hael

Rand al'Thor receives Torval in the council tent, dismissing the warning about Aes Sedai and asserting control over the Asha'man. He listens to Fedwin Morr's report on Seanchan movements, orders the defense of Illian, and reflects on the madness consuming his soldiers due to the taint of saidin before laughing maniacally as Lews Therin returns.

Chapter 21 - Answering the Summons

Rand endures the physical toll of channeling saidin while orchestrating the movement of his camp and the Legion of the Dragon to a hidden position on the Silver Road. He dismisses the concerns of Weiramon and others, sends Narishma on a secret errand which returns with a mysterious package, and later confides in Davram Bashere about his plan to use nobles as sacrificial shields in an impending battle.

Chapter 22 - Gathering Clouds

Rand stands impatiently as his army forms in the rain, suppressing the influence of Lews Therin. He travels to Altara, survives an archer attack by channeling saidin violently and vomiting, and returns to his army while Bashere reports the absence of Seanchan in the immediate vicinity.

Chapter 24 - A Time for Iron

Rand al'Thor observes his army preparing to move, notes the difficulty of controlling saidin, and despite Bashere's warnings, uses Callandor to unleash a massive lightning storm that kills many of his own men.

Chapter 27 - The Bargain

Rand returns to the Sun Palace wearing the Crown of Swords and greets Min, dismissing the political updates from Dobraine with calm authority. He accepts the Sea Folk's bargain despite its burdens and orders a message sent for Cadsuane. When confronted by the Maidens Somara, Nesair, and Nandera for abandoning them, he allows them to beat him as punishment. He then seeks out Cadsuane, who reveals that Callandor is flawed and links his sanity to her guidance, leaving him horrified by the reality of his condition.

Chapter 29 - A Cup of Sleep

Rand paces angrily over Elayne's rejection, accepts the oath of five penitent Aes Sedai, and then survives an assassination attempt on himself by hiding and channeling saidin violently. He secretly kills Fedwin Morr to protect him, confronts Mazrim Taim about deserters, and prepares to flee the palace with Min.
