Pips, das Reitpferd von Mat, wird von Mat geritten, als er in den Steigbügeln steht, um den Pass hinaufzublicken, und später führt er das Pferd näher an die Aiel-Chefs heran.

Mat holds Pips' nose and later gallops him up slopes and down into battle, with the gelding dancing at Mat's sudden rein.
