Gernisavien sleeps in the house, eats from a can of food, and is placed in a travel cage to be dropped off with the Suttons before Bremen leaves.

Gernisavien glares at Jeremy as he returns home and runs from the room when he becomes overly excited about his research.

The calico cat appears at the kitchen door and later on the table, brushing against Jeremy's legs and jumping into Gail's lap for warmth before chasing imaginary prey into the darkness.

Chapter 44 - Eyes I Dare Not Meet

Gernisavien follows Jeremy and Gail to the beach, hunts insects in the dune grass, and later stalks grasshoppers while his owners lie together in the shade.

Chapter 45 - Eyes I Dare Not Meet In

Gernisavien sits on Gail's lap on the porch swing, purring while Jeremy and Gail discuss Jacob's suicide and the nature of reality.
