Chapter 2 - Saidin

Loial — aliases: Ogier

Loial interrupts Perrin and Min to ask about the Tuatha’an, then explains the mechanics of ta’veren and the Pattern to Min, noting that those close to them are tugged along. He reveals he is keeping notes on his friends, including Rand, and notes that he left the stedding without the Elders' permission because he wanted to see the groves Ogier planted.

Chapter 3 - News from the Plain

Loial helps the Shienarans rebuild a collapsed hut with his strength, then joins the group at the fire to hear the news about the Whitecloaks, suggesting that the Dragon can now move freely while blinking uncertainly at Moiraine.

Chapter 5 - Nightmares Walking

Loial fights Trollocs with a large quarterstaff and observes the battle from the sidelines, later leaning on his staff as the survivors gather.

Chapter 7 - The Way Out of the Mountains

Loial

Loial rides a horse that looks undersized with his long legs dangling, helps catch fish, and accepts his role in doing Moiraine’s chores as an inevitability. He rides in silence regarding Aes Sedai secrets and helps clean the fish.

Chapter 8 - Jarra

Loial — aliases: good master, Ogier

Loial ducks under doorways and rumbles about Ogier history while Simion gapes at him. He sits with Simion in their room, explaining the peace of the stedding, while Perrin handles the inquiries about Rand and Noam.

Chapter 33 - Within the Weave

Loial — aliases: friend Ogier

Rides his horse and speaks in a deep voice, drawing the attention of the gathered people by asking how humans can endure their constant excitement and activity.

Chapter 34 - A Different Dance

Loial excitedly shows Perrin his ancient sung-wood bed and invites him to supper.

Chapter 35 - The Falcon

Loial is awakened from his writing, tugs on his boots to leave, comments enthusiastically on the 'adventure' of sneaking away, and boards the Snow Goose yawning.

Chapter 41 - A Hunter’s Oath

Loial emerges from his stifling cabin only after the others have disembarked, rushing onto the dock while trying to don his coat and saddlebags, and mutely mouthing a warning about angering Aes Sedai to Perrin.

Chapter 42 - Easing the Badger

Loial expresses deep unease about Illian, fearing he will be taken back to the stedding. During the attack on the inn, he grabs a chair like a club, then sits at the table with a book in his pocket, trying to ignore the tension.

Chapter 43 - Shadowbrothers

Loial joins the search for the attacker, noting that Ogier see better than most, and expresses unease about the situation and his own dreams. He retreats to his room after seeing Lan prepare to depart.

Chapter 44 - Hunted

Loial

Loial helps Perrin with his cloak and identifies the stone face on the mound as an Ogier carving, noting it is not from a stedding. He questions whether they should leave due to the potential for more threats. Lan suggests heading to Tear, calling it a good idea. Loial later helps hold the horses during the Darkhound attack.

Chapter 50 - The Hammer
