Chapter 10 - Secrets

Egwene al’Vere

Egwene fears losing her freedom and spots Tar Valon in the distance before sensing trouble. When Whitecloaks block their path, she channels saidar to create explosions of dirt that scatter the attackers, then apologizes to the wounded officer before being rebuked by Verin for her impulsive use of the Power.

Chapter 11 - Tar Valon

Egwene rides into Tar Valon with her companions, feeling a sense of loss at Hurin's departure and anxiety about the political fallout from her use of the Power. She attempts to speak to Verin but is silenced by Verin's stern warning, then follows Sheriam's orders to retreat to her quarters while trying to remain calm in the face of potential punishment.

Chapter 13 - Punishments

Egwene languishes in her windowless novice room, contemplating the possibility of being stilled and discussing escape plans with Elayne. She is led to the Amyrlin’s study, where she listens as the Amyrlin announces her promotion to Accepted and her assignment to kitchen work, accepting the punishment with relief that it is not worse.

Chapter 14 - The Bite of the Thorns

Egwene listens in shock as Siuan reveals the Black Ajah conspiracy and the mission to hunt them. She struggles with the lack of time for her duties but ultimately agrees to join Nynaeve in the hunt, asserting her maturity to Nynaeve before accepting the Amyrlin's warrant.

Chapter 15 - The Gray Man

Egwene walks with Nynaeve through the empty galleries, expressing fear of the Black Ajah and channeling to prepare for defense. She looks through the railing to observe the fallen Gray Man, panics when she realizes the crossbow is missing, and retrieves her cloak, noting the bolt has vanished without a trace. She then rejoins Nynaeve to flee Sheriam's wrath, trying to process the deadly encounter.

Chapter 16 - Hunters Three

Egwene enters Nynaeve's room with Nynaeve and finds Elayne with her brothers. She remains mostly silent during the confrontation with Galad and Gawyn, blushing at Galad's attention, before joining the discussion about the Black Ajah and Mat's healing. She expresses alarm at the possibility of the Amyrlin letting Mat die and suggests combining their power to heal him.

Chapter 17 - The Red Sister

Egwene walks through the dark passages of the White Tower with Nynaeve and Elayne, feeling dread about the Black Ajah and the severity of Mat's condition. In the healing chamber, she clutches the hands of her friends, observing the Aes Sedai and the immense power of the sa'angreal. She watches in horror as Mat struggles against the Healing, shouting Old Tongue battle cries, and listens as Siuan explains the nature of his past-life memories before being dismissed to kitchen labor.

Chapter 21 - A World of Dreams

Egwene scrubbed grease from her hands after bake day and hurried to Verin's quarters above the library. She listened to Verin's explanation of parallel worlds and the unification of the Dark One across them, then received a large, twisted stone ring that aided in entering Tel'aran'rhiod before leaving to return to her chores.

Chapter 22 - The Price of the Ring

Egwene / Egwene al'Vere — aliases: the Amyrlin Seat, Mother

Egwene passes through the initiation arches, enduring visions of her fears and futures, and is captured and stilled by the Black Ajah after her vision where she sees herself as the Amyrlin Seat. She escapes her captives, finds Beldeine, and races to the Traitor's Court to save Rand, only to step into the arch once more to face the Dark One's threat.
