Chapter 8 - The Château d’if

Prisoner / Captain — aliases: Dantès, The prisoner

Edmond Dantès is escorted by gendarmes from the Palais de Justice to the Château d'If via boat, passing the cove of the Catalans and reflecting on Mercédès. Upon arrival, he is placed in a cell where he eats little and threatens the jailer with a stool to ensure a message reaches his fiancée, leading the authorities to deem him mad and move him to a dungeon.
