Chapter 29 - Morrel and Company

Englishman — aliases: head clerk of Messrs Thomson and French, Sinbad the Sailor, stranger, foreigner

Arriving as the agent of Thomson and French, he confronts Morrel with his debts and observes the shipowner's despair with cold calculation. He witnesses the sailors' arrival and Morrel's subsequent ruin, then intervenes to grant Morrel a three-month extension on the bills while privately promising Julie a future with Emmanuel.
