Concierge — aliases: the guide, the keeper

The concierge of the Château d'If, who has been there since 1830, gives the Count a tour of the dungeons and recounts the legendary escape of prisoner 34. He shows the Count the tunnel made by Abbé Faria and, upon finding Faria's manuscript hidden in the cell, gives it to the Count, accepting a generous financial reward in return.
